A little bit of history about Aspen, Colorado...

Founded as a mining camp during the Colorado Silver Boom of the mid to late 1800s, Ute City later became a ski resort named after the aspen trees so prevalent in the area. Now, although the city of aspen boasts only 6000 year-round residents or so, it is visited season after season by people from every corner of the globe. Why is an Aspen travel vacation so good for a person?

If you are sitting in an office or a city apartment or condo (as the vast majority of Americans are) right now you’ll have to use your imagination:  Imagine rolling out of bed in the morning for a continental breakfast and some coffee before heading down to the lobby for a quick perusal of the Aspen Daily News (You don’t want to be completely out of touch on your holidays after all). That’s about the point where this trip detours from the usual. You step outside your hotel and look out to the horizon, and instead of urban sprawl or prairie isolation what fills your frame of reference is Aspen Mountain or Buttermilk Mountain in all their alpine glory.

and you are on a gondola up the mountain in among the trees. If you’ve dressed properly once you’re at the top you are ready for any number of activities. Ski or hike, sightsee or snowboard. Grab a bite to eat at a mountaintop café. On your descent you could spot wildlife or simply watch people run into things as they constantly look around them at the beauty of God’s country. This is normal for an Aspen vacation.

There are other activities in the city and at the mountain’s base as well. An outing can be about golf, skiing,  or shopping as easily as it can be about alpine touring or cross-country skiing. The point is to get out, get active, and then once your body has been stretched a bit, to relax in all the comforts of home. Come to think of it, unfortunately it’s probably more comfortable than home.  Family and friends alike will thank you for making it an Aspen travel vacation this year.
